Holding true to its name Audarya once again played generous host to a beautiful Janmastami festival. This five day festival included two classes each day, an all day celebration for Janmastami, and a half day celebration of Srila Prabhupada’s Vyasa puja.
Devotees came from near and far to join in the festivities. By Saturday Audarya was transformed into a beehive of service to Gaura-Nitai. Sunday morning Swami Tripurari began giving talks on the Brahma-vimohana lila, continuing from where he left off during his recent trip to Poland. He began with an explanation of the importance of this lila in terms of tattva as it demonstrates in lila that “krsnas tu bhagavan svayam,” the philosophical underpinning of Gaudiya Vaisnavism. At night Swami opened the floor for questions, resulting in some wonderful evening discussions.
The morning of Janmastami all the devotees were in high spirits as Swami gave class, followed by a yajna and initiations. Gauranga Prema became Amala Syama, Aditi became Atula Sakhi and second initiation was given to Lila-mayi and Sacitanaya. In the afternoon Ashrama Maharaja gave a class on the transcendental nature of Krsna’s birth. After sundar arati, Swami Tripurari gave a compelling talk about the hidden story within the narrative of Krsna’s birth. As night set in the abhishek of Giriraja was performed –fanned by a camara on one side and a peacock fan on the other– kirtan ensued and all enjoyed the bathing ceremony. Chanting continued on until the midnight arati when the altar opened to Gaura-Nityananda shining brightly, adorned in their new outfits. Following arati prashad was served and the devotees honored the feast surrounded by good company.
The next day the avirabhava of A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada began with a timely talk by Swami Tripurari on the importance of honoring the guru appropriately. Ashrama Maharja offered arati to Srila Prabhupada as all the devotees performed kirtan and offered pushpanjali in celebration of his appearance. After the noon arati devotees again came together to enjoy a wonderful feast.
As the official festival came to a close some of the devotees stayed on to help prepare Audarya for the winter. Many of the decks and buildings got a new coat of stain and all the firewood for the winter was cut and stacked. In addition to the maintenance Audarya also gained a monk-in-training – Craig.
Swami will be at Saragrahi, NC for six weeks beginning October 10th.
